The 5 Biggest Hair Mistakes You’re Making

Yes, there are worse things that can happen, but we have to admit, not having a good hair day can often disrupt our whole social and business calendar! A bad hair day can ruin the day; you’re best of times.

Before you just settle for a cap, realise that those bad hair days can become great hair days – remember that you are never fully dressed without great hair!

So where do you start? Here are 5 of the biggest hair care mistake that can be easily remedied with these quick good tips for you.

  1. Rinse thoroughly

Shampoos are superb at cutting the grease and oil from your hair. But any leftover residue from shampoo can do more damage than not shampooing at all.

Left over residue will attract dirt to your hair leaving it looking dirtier and oil than ever. Rinse until you can feel your hair is clear.

  1. Let your hair dry before using hairstyling products

This is a common mistake people make. Its far better to let your hair dry completely before you apply hairstyle products, like hair straightener or hair dryer. This way you have complete control of your hair and you can style it as you please.

Any water in your hair will just dilute the product in any case, making it less effective.

  1. A hairstyle that doesn’t compliment

Life can be unfair in that you might not have been blessed with thick, bouncy, shiny locks. But really, it boils down to facing the facts and being honest in choosing the style that suits your hair type and your face, rather than insisting on being a Kardashian or an Angelina Jolie.

Wear a style that suits your personality, your face and your lifestyle, and certainly your hair.

  1. Bald, and trying to cover it?

It’s inevitable to lose hair as we grow older, sometimes women too. But it can be pathetic to observe how some people deal with it in their attempt to cover it up. Rather embrace the condition, finding out from your hairdresser ways to minimise the appearance of the thinning hair.

  1. Washing too much or too little

There is no precise number of times you need to wash your hair in a week. This will depend on the texture of the hair and natural oil production for example.

Experts agree that only a small group of people need to shampoo their hair daily; those with very fine hair and those who exercise a lot and sweat or live in very humid places.

If your scalp is oily or you have dandruff, sometimes in these situations frequent washing is needed to keep scalp and hair healthy and good-looking.

All of the above makes sense if you also follow a balanced and healthy diet, consisting of natural foods. If you eat takeaways all the time, greasy, over-processed and sweet foods, your hair will give back what is put in; fine, limp, oily, dull hair. Healthy diet, plenty of fresh water and exercise and voila! – Hair sorted!

“Invest in your hair; it is the crown you never take off”!
